Do you experience or have observed: Bowel issues including both constipation and/or diarrhea?…

  • Gastrointestinal discomfort including nausea, flatulence and bloating?
  • General fatigue and low energy?
  • Vitamin and mineral deficiencies most notably Iron?
  • Joint and bone pain?
  • Failure to thrive in your child?

There is a multitude of potential causes including food allergies or sensitivities, gastrointestinal microbes, an imbalance of the micro flora or it could be Coeliac disease.

Coeliac Awareness Week is next week from the 13th to the 20th of March so it’s a great time to increase your awareness around this increasingly common condition. It’s often left undiagnosed in 4 out of 5 people, with it taking about 10 years from the initial symptoms before a person is diagnosed. This condition has a broad range of non-specific symptoms that can range from mild to severe. These can often be just tolerated, or misdiagnosed as IBS resulting in either no or incorrect treatment. The condition can substantially compromise your quality of life and wellbeing not only in the short term but can lead to serious health complications including osteoporosis, infertility/miscarriage and some cancers.

So what is it?

Gluten, which is a protein found in wheat, rye, barley and oats, provokes an immune reaction, which causes inflammation and damage to the intestines. This damage impairs the body’s ability to absorb nutrients from food, which can often result in malnutrition, even if you have a good diet. This malabsorption can lead to more serious complications in the long term. So, if you’re experiencing any of the above symptoms, NOW is the perfect time to get things checked out and clarify what the cause is. Regardless of whether it’s a food sensitive or something like coeliac disease, it’s important to get it resolved ASAP so that you can obtain the right treatment, reduce the risk of any serious complications in the future but also increase your overall health and vitality RIGHT NOW!

Our clinical nutritionist Lina Capovilla can assist you with finding the underlying cause of your discomfort and support you to resolve it and feel great.
