Five questions before choosing a facial

Melbourne Wellness · · 2 min read

A facial starts with a conversation about your skin and what you would like from the appointment. Bring your questions, especially if previous products or treatments have felt uncomfortable.

Here are five things worth discussing before you book.

1. What is the appointment for?

Describe your concern in your own words. Ask what the proposed facial involves and whether a medical assessment should come first. Our sensitive skin guide explains a separate pathway for ongoing irritation.

2. Which products would be used?

Bring a list or photographs of your current products and any known allergies. Ask for ingredient information before agreeing to something new.

Cosmetics and plant ingredients can cause allergic contact dermatitis. A natural or botanical description does not tell you whether an ingredient will suit your skin. Healthdirect — Contact dermatitis.

3. How will the session be adapted?

The current menu includes advanced skin analysis and a 60-minute bespoke facial. Ask which steps would be included for you and why. Melbourne Wellness — Services.

You can mention preferences about touch, fragrance, conversation and comfort. Ask what can be left out or changed.

4. What happens afterwards?

Ask for clear instructions about your usual skincare and who to contact with questions. Understand the full cost and any suggested follow-up before making a decision.

5. Does this need a GP instead?

See your GP if a rash is painful, widespread, appears suddenly, or comes with fever or feeling unwell. A product making a rash worse is also a reason to seek medical advice. Healthdirect — Contact dermatitis.

For everyday routine questions, read sensitive skin moisturisers.

Discuss suitability at a consultation.
