Calm is the gentlest vitamin A serum in the Osmosis range, and the one we usually suggest for people trying vitamin A for the first time or whose skin is easily upset. It uses retinal (retinaldehyde) carried in phosphatidylcholine liposomes, the delivery system Osmosis uses across its serums.

What makes Calm different is the support around the vitamin A. Asiaticoside (from gotu kola), willowherb, sea buckthorn, chlorella and feverfew extracts are there to keep skin comfortable, with niacinamide, panthenol, dimethyl sulfone (MSM), beta-glucan and a peptide, palmitoyl tripeptide-38. Cloudberry seed oil and a light blend of rose, bergamot and camphor oils finish the formula.

The aim is a vitamin A serum that helps skin look smoother and more even over time, without the dryness and flaking many people expect from retinoids.

How to use

On clean skin, apply 1–2 pumps morning and/or evening. Spritz any Osmosis Activating Mist and gently massage into skin. Follow with additional serum(s) and moisturiser if needed (directions from the box).

Boost is the activating mist most people pair with Calm. In the morning, finish with a broad-spectrum sunscreen.

Who it's for

The box lists ageing, sensitive, irritated and dry skin. Calm suits people who are new to vitamin A, or who have found other retinoid products too drying.

Vitamin A products are usually avoided in pregnancy, so if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy, check with your doctor before using it. Introduce it gradually, and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day.
