10. Fat Free and Diet Foods

Posted - Friday, January 22, 2010

These foods have to be the biggest false advertising stunt we have seen. They are marketed at vulnerable people that are desperate for change. If you’ve ever struggled to keep your weight under control, you’re probably already aware of these foods and have experienced that the fat free foods don’t help. A diet too low in good fats leaves you feeling depressed and battling food cravings not to mention a number of health risks.  Text

9. Fructose and Sucrose

Posted - Wednesday, January 20, 2010

We are lucky enough in Australia not to use High Fructose Corn Syrup in our foods however we do use a sweetener called Sucrose, which is just as dangerous. In the past Fructose has been treated as a healthier choice for a sweetener due to the delayed effect upon blood sugar levels. This delayed effect has given soft drink companies a loop hole to market their drinks as having a low glycemic index.  Text

8. Potato Chips

Posted - Monday, January 18, 2010

I could never eat chocolate again and be happy, however when it come to potato chips even I have a craving for them every now and again, however knowing how unhealthy they are helps me choose to pass if they are offered. An example of just how unhealthy they are, imagine letting your child drink from a great big bottle of cooking oil or fat, as that is just what we are doing to ourselves when we eat a packet of chips. The oil that is used to cook potato chips is heated to vey high temperatures making the oil unstable and results in a toxic product. The oil the chips are cooked in is not only used once but reused again and again to cook more batches. Yuck! Text

5. Soft Drinks

Posted - Tuesday, January 12, 2010

The average can of soft drink contains the equivalent of 10 teaspoons of sugar (about 150 calories) as well as artificial food colours and sulphites. Sulphites are well known triggers of asthma and other allergies. Don’t be fooled to think diet soft drinks are healthier they are just as unhealthy, containing artificial sweeteners like aspartame which has been found to be potent ‘excitotoxins’ to the brain and nervous system and have also been linked to an increased risk of obesity, tunnel vision, migraines plus many more.  Text

4. Doughnuts

Posted - Tuesday, January 12, 2010

“There is NOTHING healthy about doughnuts, NOTHING” If you broke down a doughnut you would be left with nothing but refined sugar and flour, artificial flavors and partially hydrogenated oil. They’re also extremely high in trans fat. Despite the fact that they increase the risk of heart disease, obesity and diabetes, doughnuts are increasingly used as rewards for children these days. And we wonder why, as a society our children are growing up with obesity and other health issues by a young age even before puberty, and are expecting our health care system to OK, lap band surgery for teenagers, Responsibility is the Key! Text
